Special Exhibit

Joseon selected talented people through state examinations and, naturally, state examination was regarded as the ladder to success and path to glory in the past. The state examination usually required 15-20 years of preparation and was comprised of subjects such as the recitation of scriptures and essay examination, resulting in an ‘examination hell’. Studying was not pleasant in it. It was not very different from the purpose of studying in today’s society.
This exhibition examined how we study in our times and the value of future education by examining how silhak scholars studied, which opens our eyes to studying.
